El Cabanyal
In February 2019 I travelled to Valencia with my university to visit our site located in El Cabanyal. Being on the site gave me a great advantage as I was able to sense the atmosphere on site and interact with the locals. It was also very beneficial as many things had changed on the site and seeing these changes first hand enabled me to draw over the existing map I had acquired and create a more accurate site plan.
The socio-cultural implication of El Cabanyal are complex.
El Cabanyal seems to be completely cut off from the rest of Valencia. It doesn’t have any attractions apart from the adjacent beach and this leads to it feeling empty and forgotten about.
It is my intention to use my library as a way to reunite El Cabanyal with Valencia. My building will be a library for the community, where residence of El Cabanyal and tourists of Valencia can come and relax or study in peace whilst admiring the water.
